Urämische Stomatitis (US) tritt vor allem bei Nierenversagen im Endstadium auf, insbesondere wenn die Krankheit über viele Jahre hinweg schleichend fortgeschritten ist. Die urämische Stomatitis ist eine seltene Komplikation des urämischen Syndroms, die auftritt, wenn sich stickstoffhaltige Abfallprodukte im Mund ansammeln und der Harnstoffspiegel im Blut auf über 300 mg/ml ansteigt, aber auch bei Werten unter 200 mg/ml können Veränderungen der Mundschleimhaut beobachtet werden. Die Patienten können über Schmerzen, Dysgeusie, unangenehmen Geschmack und Brennen im Zusammenhang mit den Läsionen klagen, und der Arzt kann einen Geruch von Ammoniak oder Urin im Atem des Patienten feststellen. Die klinische Darstellung kann wei e Plaques umfassen, die vorwiegend auf der Wangenschleimhaut, dem Mundboden und der dorsalen oder ventralen Oberfläche der Zunge verteilt sind.
