Vitamin B1 hat die Molekularformel C12H17N4OS. Es ist eine Stoffwechselvorstufe von Thiaminpyrophosphat, seiner in der Leber aktivierten Form, die die Umwandlung von Kohlenhydraten in Energie ermöglicht und die Funktion des Nerven- und Muskelsystems sicherstellt. Es wird von Bakterien, Pflanzen und Pilzen synthetisiert und greift in den Energiestoffwechsel ein, reguliert die Stimmung, Herzinsuffizienz und wirkt gegen Muskelschmerzen. Vitamin B2 wird für die Synthese von Flavin-Adenin-Dinukleotid und Flavin-Mononukleotid benötigt.
