The run-up to Christmas is tantalizingly, agonizingly wonderful isn't it? But what happens after Christmas? Wally, Santa's favorite elf, has a story to tell. Somehow, on Santa's whirlwind tour of the World on Christmas Eve, Wally falls off Santa's sleigh over Pretoria in South Africa ... and is left behind. The calamity turns into a voyage of discovery as Wally, saved from drowning by a spunky little gosling - with a lisp - makes his way back to the North Pole. Along the way he meets up with Christopher, a cheerful companion who constantly chirps out Cs. Together they cross two Continents and an Ocean (and an Island), sharing adventurers and meeting new friends. Wally is not an adorable elf; he is a can-do kind of fellow who makes friends with ordinary people (like dustmen, and butchers and pilots and postmistresses), but never loses his way. This is a wonderful story of friendship and perseverance, with a twist in the tale, and with plenty of lessons to learn along the way. It is a book for children ... of all ages.
