She worked and taught public school in Caddo Parish for 25 years. She is currently employed as an associate professor at Grambling State University. She is married to Rickey E. Johnson and together they have five children, nine grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. She is an active member of Christ Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Shreveport, LA.
