Elvira Sample was once a happy girl. Growing up an only child may not be one's idea of a perfect life, but she and her mother make their cozy cabin in a picturesque setting a quiet refuge with happy memories. In adulthood, Elvira is able to settle for the path of least resistance, though not without regret. However, her idyllic life in Vermont is shattered when one man enters their lives and entraps them in a dark, sinister presence.Now, broken and hopeless, Elvira arrives in Wheatacre, Kansas. Life's scars have left her feeling old and shriveled up on the inside.
