Synopsis "A Brooklyn Project: Urban Book of Poems inspired by Farragut Projects"

An urban book of poetry from the authors perspective of living in Farragut Projects located in Brooklyn, NYC. Hear about the author's friends, family and community through poetry, photographs and literary dialogue. Wonderful book, inspiring, educational and often funny. The book A Brooklyn Project is a representation of author's experience there from 1962 to 1985. The poetic vision of the events and people through the eyes of a child, teenager and adult. This book of urban poetry is culturally moving. She captures the essence of the neighborhood, it's shops, churches, schools and the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The Farragut houses are a cultural icon and is the focal point of the work. It's multi- cultural influence is a marvel from their block parties, community center marching bands, leisure time and Old Timers Day. Today you can Google Farragut Houses on Facebook with over 900 members strong. Blogs with an array of comments by community members posted daily in remembrance and recognition of the neighborhood. Every year they still get together for Old Timers Day to celebrate with the new community tenants and reunite with the old, usually at Commodore Barry Park (City Park) or a Block Party on Sands Street from the Brooklyn Navy Yard on Navy Street to Gold Street. The area of Farragut was the foundation of Shiva School (Yeshiva is Jewish), Watch Tower (Jehovah's Witnesses), Public Schools, St. Ann's Catholic Church, Drakes Cakes, Barney's Italian Grocer and Dr. White Community Center. Farragut Houses next door neighbors are Brooklyn Heights Historical District, and Fort Greene. It was the home of Italian, Jewish, African American, Puerto Rican and West Indians. It's building's location stand near the Brooklyn & Manhattan Bridges, Brooklyn, Queens Expressway (BQE). The High Street and York Street subway stations, formerly titled the BMT Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit (Subway fast food restaurant names their BMT sub sandwich - Ham, cheese usually provolone, spicy and regular hard salami and any fixings) subway line presently called the IND. IND means Independent.
