This book contains a series of texts written by Jose Ignacio Rasco, including several from 1959 and 1960, showing his beginnings in the Cuban public sector. He paints for us a vivid portrait of Fidel Castro, who was his classmate in Belen as well as in the University of Havana. Finally, the book contains a long interview granted in 1998 to Dr. Silvia Pedraza, professor of sociology at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, where he talks with great freedom of his extensive political work, full of agreements and disagreements, and today, memories. These words, some written more than half a century ago, retain all the passion from these experiences. In these pages we hear the voice of Jose Ignacio Rasco saying "I was there". The reader will understand the life story of this remarkable intellectual and politician, as well as learn about Cuban history.
