Synopsis "Corruption of a Plaid Skirt"

Have you ever had your heart broken? How about your nose - have you ever had your nose broken by someone you thought you loved? Lillie has. Have you ever had a date go wrong? Or how about your love interest telling you you're not attractive enough to look at with the lights on? Lillie has. Have you ever been raped? Lillie has. "Stop! I said no!" The many times Lillie screamed those words failed to have impact. Lillie, the main character of the story, allows years of abusive treatment to fester within her before she finally acts out. She is mistreated as a child and falls victim to rape as an adult. She curses herself for not being strong enough to defend herself. When she reaches out to her long-time friend, Tipsy, she's hoping to rekindle the bestie connection they once had, but Tipsy is distracted with the affair she is currently involved in. Lillie feels she has lost her confidant. Unhappy with her situation - and her job as a flight attendant out of Detroit Metro, Lillie succumbs to despair and breaks down. It is then she learns whats she's made of and what she will no longer tolerate. Time to break old patterns. Just as the phoenix rises again and again, Lillie finds the strength to become a survivor. Listening is one of the simplest forms of support - especially when people have experienced something they feel they should stay quiet about. Sharing journeys is the underlying theme threaded throughout the book. We all have our cultural differences and personality quirks, but when it comes to the important stuff, it's better to have people around to help you through it. A support system is the necessary structure that we as human beings need in order to survive this thing called life. It took me roughly ten years to complete Corruption of a Plaid Skirt, several of those years spent being convinced to publish it. I know that Lillie will not speak to everybody in the same way, but I do hope she can offer healing to those who can identify with her experiences.
