Brustkrebs ist weltweit und in Tunesien die häufigste Krebserkrankung bei Frauen. Seine Inzidenz steigt stetig an.Die Risikofaktoren für Brustkrebs sind vielfältig. Es gibt endogene und exogene hormonelle Faktoren, reproduktionsbezogene Faktoren, demografische und Brustfaktoren, Umweltfaktoren und erbliche Faktoren. Obwohl die meisten Fälle sporadischen Formen entsprechen, wird geschätzt, dass 5-10% der Fälle eine erbliche Komponente haben. Es wurden zwei wichtige Anfälligkeitsgene identifiziert: BRCA1 (BReast CAncer 1) und BRCA2 (Breast CAncer 2), die eine entscheidende Rolle bei der Reparatur von Fehlern in der DNA spielen. Konstitutionell bedingte schädliche Mutationen in BRCA1 und BRCA2 sind mit einem hohen Brustkrebsrisiko verbunden, was den Wert der Identifizierung dieser Mutationen in Risikofamilien noch erhöht.
