Karl Friedrich Schinkel hat auf seiner Reise nach England im Jahr 1826 auch das Stroud Valley besucht, und hier zwei Fabrikstrukturen gesehen, die er mit seinem Genius erkannt und zu einer kompletten Skelettkonstruktion der Berliner Bauakademie fusioniert hat. Das Buch gibt Aufschluss über die Fabrik von 1761 mit einer äu eren Skelettkonstruktion und der Fabrik mit einem gusseisernen, nicht brennbaren inneren Skelett von 1813. Die Autoren beschreiben im Detail die Konstruktionen der beiden Fabriken und ziehen Parallelen zu der weiteren Gestaltung der Bauakademie in Berlin. Somit wird ein weiterer neuer Aspekt der Schinkel-Forschung publiziert.
