Synopsis "Half a Donut and Other Short Stories"
Half a Donut and Other Stories contains four short stories all involving the police and crime in some fashion. In "Half a Donut," Detective Ryder Blake consults with lawyer, Kimberly Dempsey, to solve the murder of Edgar Payne, a wealthy recluse who only had three months to live. The story unfolds in 8,423 words. "A Ghost of a Chance" is the first person story of electronics wizard, Jonathan Miller, his murder, and his justice. Justice is served in 2,380 words. "The Rookie" is the story of Police Officer Michael Farrell's first day on street patrol. Michael, a former construction worker, considers himself the embodiment of macho man. He firmly believes that women have no place in police work, but before the day is over, is forced to reconsider his opinion. He learns much about women and himself in 1,528 words. "The Child" catches nineteen year old Timothy Dooling burglarizing the home of a family while they frolic in their backyard pool. Drugs are not the only problem haunting Timothy. All is revealed in 1,468 words.
