Synopsis "Identification of Environmental Risks and Impacts in the Petroleum Industry"
Oil is a fossil fuel that, although known since the beginning of human civilization, only in recent years has its rate of exploitation increased. Even though oil is a big business for the world because it has a huge energy potential and has several uses and applications, it is also one of the worst sources of pollution, causing undesirable and worrying effects on the quality of life and the marine ecosystem, bringing damage both to the environment and to society and socio-economic activities in the affected territories. The concern with risks and maritime safety is growing both internationally and nationally, especially with the discovery of the pre-salt layer in Brazilian maritime areas. Therefore, the importance of environmental regulations concerning the oil transportation sector by oil tankers and effective response methods if followed correctly is highlighted. In the circumstances observed from recent oil spill accidents in the waters, this paper presents the impacts caused by these spills and the control of different risks that can be monitored and managed by standards and analyses.
