His astute observations describe a people and a place that has been lost in time, valuable descriptions in words, as well as pen and brush. He was accomodated by the then Vice-Minister of Home Affairs and Adviser to the King, Mr. C.R. Greathouse, also General Le Gendre, Foreign Adviser to the Korean ruler. The culture, times and culture is vividly described here, making this work a valuable supplement to any study of Korean culture or history.
