En esta parábola, el hijo menor reclama su herencia y la gasta lejos del padre en forma desordenada pero el padre lo recibe lleno de alegría porque ha recobrado a su hijo perdido, sin embargo, al hijo mayor le molesta mucho este perdón así como también a los fariseos y escribas de aquella época que no podían soportar que Jesús sea escuchado por los publicanos pecadores. Jesús decía: Os aseguro que en el cielo habrá más alegría por un pecador que se arrepienta que noventa y nueve justos que no tienen necesidad de arrepentimiento. Una lección para nosotros es que debemos aceptar y agradecer la infinita misericordia de Dios padre.
