Inmitten der Gebäudetürme der Hochfinanz steht beinahe bescheiden, aus rotem Mainsandstein erbaut, eines der wichtigsten Gebäude der deutschen Geschichte. Von 1789 bis 1833 errichtet, diente die Paulskirche bis 1944 als evangelische Hauptkirche Frankfurts. In dem klassizistischen Rundbau tagten 1848/49 die Delegierten der Frankfurter Nationalversammlung, der ersten frei gewählten Volksvertretung. Der Band schildert mit reichhaltigem Bildmaterial die architekturhistorische Bedeutung und Geschichte dieses Nationaldenkmals bis in die heutige Zeit.
