Synopsis "The role of the Floating Farms in sustainable food systems"
Build floating structures (hexagonal islands) on water it is possible to gain space for food production and urbanization without competing for scarce land.Choosing the design of building the floating islands on hexagonal shapes is because it is considered one of the most coherent and economic forms. When you look at a regular hexagon shape you will see that the sides are equal to each other, and the diagonals are twice the length of the sides completely, and that all the internal angles are 120 degrees, this means that the six triangles within the hexagon are equilateral triangles. Likewise, the hexagonal shapes can be arranged very tightly, precisely and carefully next to each other and without any vacuum, i.e. minimizing empty spaces. The hexagon consumes the least amount of raw material needed to build a floating structure, at the same time it provides the largest surface area. Hexagonal blocks Similar idea and principles than the rectangular blocks, but in this case, the shape is an hexagon. It has the advantage that is more stable against waves or tides . Based on the diversification strategy on the hexagonal island that combines Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS).
