Synopsis "The United States in the Time of Lyndon Johnson: 1963-1969"
The Vietnam War was Johnson's War. There were 16,000 American soldiers in Vietnam when Johnson took the oath of office in Dallas on 11.22.63. When Johnson left office there were 605,000 American soldiers in Vietnam. This is a short and opinionated history of the Johnson years by someone who lived through them as a boy. There is a lot in here about the Election of 1964 and the decision-making process that went into escalating the war from 16,000 to 605,000. The author does not like Lyndon, but who ever did?
