B: My mother strived to raise four kids as an illiterate farm laborer during my father's five-year imprisonment for alleged subversion of Government. Unforeseen happenstances that somehow catapulted me from the verge of quitting school to college on a path dotted with financial and legal hiccups, and eventually ended up as a professor in an American university (pp. 24 - 85). C: My brief military service in Taiwan taught one naïve college graduate to become a better and matured person (pp. 86 - 110).D: My ancestors struggled for survival over 200 years in the frontier interior of Taiwan, marked with official corruptions and brutality as well as banditry, ethnic conflicts, family feud, and heinous lawlessness. It also narrates my father's journey to hell, post-prison rehabilitation, and business bankruptcy (p. 111 - 231).
