In seiner ma geblichen Biographie des Reformators fasste Ernst Staehelin die gegenwärtige Reihe von Predigten zusammen und er erklärte dass es hier ist, in diesem Buch, "Oekolampad zum erstenmal die reformatorische Botschaft in umfassender Weise ausrichtet." Gleicherma en stimmten die Biographen des 19. Jahrhunderts J. J. Herzog und Raget Christoffel zu, dass diese Serie aus dem Advent 1523 das bedeutendste Denkmal für seine Wirksamkeit als Prediger ist. Gleichzeitig mit der ersten Übersetzung dieser Predigten ins Englische, unter dem Titel, Sermons on the First Epistle of John (A Handbook for the Christian Life), diese Serie, in Christoffels 1850 Übersetzung (von Latein nach Deutsch), wird nun zugunsten einer neuen Generation von Lesern nachgedruckt.
