Synopsis "When the First Quail Calls"

In 1967, in Greensboro, Maryland, Natalie Winslow discovers a diary written by her great-great-grandmother. At first, it just seems like an interesting distraction from the struggles of her life. Although the world is changing in many ways, in a small town on the Eastern Shore, change comes slowly. The idea of a relationship between a white woman and black man is not acceptable; marriage between the races has only just been legalized. As she reads Charity Winslow's diary from the Civil War, Natalie discovers a secret which will shake the foundation of her entire family, and which has far more personal implications than she could ever imagine. While the Civil Rights Movement is unfolding before her eyes, Natalie gains new insight into how the past has shaped the present reality. Can Natalie find a way to bring reconciliation and healing to a place that still clings to the traditions of its deeply entrenched Southern roots?
